Acanthosis nigricans

Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition where the sufferer shows patches of dark discoloration in body folds and creases.

The affected area of skin may be thick and hard and may have a very unpleasant odour .
Most often, this condition affects your armpits, groin and neck as well as the crooks of the elbows and knees.

This skin condition typically occurs in people who are obese or have diabetes.

Children who develop the condition are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Acanthosis nigricans can be a Cancer warning!

This condition may be asign of a cancerous tumor in an internal organ, such as the stomach or liver.

Acanthosis nigricans is most common in Native Americans, blacks and Hispanics. There’s no specific treatment for acanthosis nigricans.

Treatment of underlying conditions may restore some of the normal colour and texture to affected areas of skin.

If you see anyone with these characteristics – they have be diabetic and not know about it!
Get them to a physician as fast as possible.

Anyone with this condition needs to have their blood sugar levels checked immediately and reduce sugar intake.
