The basics of fats
Fats are nothing but unused energy. When you consume food or anything that produces energy for your body, the energy that is not used by us becomes fat. If you exercise properly or do other sorts of physical work, energy will be completely utilized and there will be no fat stored. This is the simple version. It is explained in more detail below.
Fats are basically of four types. These are trans, saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The first two are considered to be the bad fats, while the last two are good. Bad fats have very negative effects on your health. They disturb the balance of cholesterol in your body. They reduce the good cholesterol and increase the bad one. They also increase the chances of heart diseases and many other issues like stroke. Good fats are just the opposite. They reduce bad cholesterol and increase the good one. They improve the activities of nervous system and also make your immune system healthy. They make your body more absorbent for vitamins. Finally, they reduce the probability of any type of heart diseases.
Controlling it for better results
If you want to stay fit and healthy, exercising is a good way. But you also need to take control of what you consume. You should take in only good fats, and not bad fats. All sorts of oily stuff you eat in the market are bad fats. Things like French fries, doughnuts, pizzas and all such things contain trans and saturated fats. You should stay away from these things. Some packed foods may say on the packet that they contain 0.00 grams of trans, but that is not true. Actually FDA allows the manufacturers to write 0.00 grams if the quantity is less than 0.5 grams per serving. So, do not trust what the packet says.
When we talk about good fats, all the natural oily things contain them. These things include walnuts, sunflower oil, canola oil, omega-9 oils, sunflower seeds, salmon, trout, etc. Consuming these types of foods will make your health better. But this does not mean that you can eat all you want. You should still consume them in limited quantity.
