Why You Should Eat More Garlic

Many people do not like to eat garlic. They claim that it has a pungent taste. And you get garlic breath if you eat too much of it.

Garlic, however, adds a flavorful zing to mashed potato and Italian bread. Studies show also that this small bulb provides a wide range of health benefits that may make you overlook the garlic breath it causes.

Here are several serious reasons why you should think about eating more garlic.

7.It prevents cancer

There are several studies linking the consumption of garlic to lowering the risk of specific types of cancer.

The Journal of Nutrition recently published a paper showing that garlic helps to check colon and stomach cancer. Another research paper points out that women who include garlic, fruit, and vegetables in a well-balanced diet lower their risk of colon cancer by 35%.

6.It keeps colds away

Garlic may even prevent the sniffles.

A study was conducted to find out whether or not garlic had any effect on keeping colds away. One hundred and forty-six subjects were separated into two groups. One group was given garlic supplements; the other group was given placebo pills. The first group contracted only 24 colds in the course of the study while the second group came down with 65. While more substantial research needs to be conducted before garlic can be said to be a dependable solution for colds, the study seems to show promise.

Garlic contains antioxidants which strengthen your immune system. You can stop sniffles by sipping garlic tea with a dash of ginger or honey for greater flavor.

5.It reduces pain and swelling.

Studies indicate that garlic may possess anti-inflammatory properties. Garlic apparently has four compounds that lower pain and irritation naturally. It mimics the way over-the-counter pain medicines work, making it a healthy and natural pain reliever.

4.It fights bacteria and fungus.

Garlic helps kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It has ajoene, a chemical that fights fungal skin infections like athlete’s foot and ringworm.

If you have skin infections, crush some garlic cloves and extract the juice. Apply the juice on the infected area once or twice daily. Wash it off with room-temperature water.

If you have athlete’s foot, you may find relief if you soak your feet in water with crushed garlic cloves. Doing this on a regular basis may help get rid of the problem.

3.It lowers blood pressure.

Cardiovascular problems like stroke and heart attacks are among the world’s leading causes of death. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common symptom of these diseases.

If you are at risk of cardiovascular diseases, it may be worth your while to increase your intake of garlic. Research shows that garlic reduces blood pressure effectively.

2.It improves cholesterol levels.

High cholesterol levels also increase the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases. Reduce your cholesterol levels by eating garlic regularly. You can bring your cholesterol levels down by 10 to 15% by taking garlic regularly.

1.It reduces allergies.

If you have allergic rhinitis, garlic can help you by reducing the inflammation in the airways. If you suffer from rashes and itching due to bug bites and allergies, you can apply raw garlic juice on the problem area to alleviate the itchiness.
